BiomechTools is making it easier to get to grips with biomechanics. The app automatically tracks a human movement, and so removes the need for hours of mindless manual digitising. It’s also all live, what you see on the screen is what’s recorded.
Use the capture menu to choose which side of the body to record (whole body, or just left or right side). And, specify the name of the output file, which is really useful for adding trial numbers etc.
Sample frequency will vary with the power of your device. It will aim to collect data at 30 samples per second though this will be less with older devices. The approximate rate is displayed on the capture menu and a time column is added to the exported data.
Note! We don’t suggest using a device any older than an iPhone 8.
Following capture, you will be given the option to export the .csv data file to all of the usual places. Any points that go out of view are replaced with NaN’s (not a number). At the moment it is not possible to export the video data so we recommend doing a screen record if this is useful.
See www.biomechtools.co.uk for help with processing your data, e.g. calculating centre of mass, interpolation, velocities and accelerations, and much more!
